The History of Hidden Valley

Ski In Powder at Hidden Valley Ski Area

Nestled away in the picturesque evergreen forests of the Cypress Hills Provincial Park is a great Ski and Snowboard facility waiting for you to explore.

In the early 1960's local Cypress residents developed a toboggan hill for all to enjoy. After a short time the Cypress Skiers Association installed a rope tow and began skiing down a natural gladed trail. This was the beginning of the Mile High Ski Hill. In 1967 the association relocated to an area with close to 700 vertical ft. and installed a T-Bar with several runs. A member of the original development group, Leonard McGee continued to develop and operate the Mile High Ski Hill. Mr. McGee would forever be known as "Mountain Man".

In 1981 Dave Fischer took over the operationFor All Ages and planning for the area. The Mile High Ski Hill named because of its elevation of 4594 ft. / 1400 m. was renamed Hidden Valley. The Alberta Government in 1987 invested in the Cypress Hills Park and Hidden Valley's Future. The reconstruction of Hidden Valley included a Quad Chair, Two Handle Tow's, a full service Daylodge, Snowmaking System, run development and re-contouring of the entire base area.

Today Hidden Valley is known for its consistent snow conditions, great facilities and friendly people. The trails are diverse, offering gentle slopes for beginners, cruising terrain for intermediates and more challenging runs for experts. The snowboard park waits to challenge all levels of experienced snowboarders. To add to the winter adventure, the town of Elkwater allows you to escape by sitting next to the fireplace of a Green Tree Cabin or to enjoy the track set cross country ski trails and ice fishing on local lakes.

Come enjoy Winter at its best Ski or Snowboard Hidden Valley this year. Our goal is to make it as easy as possible for you to experience Hidden Valley. If you would like additional information, please contact us at  info@skihiddenvalley.net or 403-893-3961.
